I have to agree with slc2. This is a good opportunity to work through his issues. If he's Aced, he won't learn a thing. I've never had any luck with herbals. I have had a small amount of success using Regu-mate on my gelding. Unfortunately, it's ext…

I think you made your point quite well. For me, it was really interesting, and exciting, to see the changes in the horse as I improved the quality of the contact. It's equally interesting, but less exciting, to see the changes that occur if I let my…

Nice post slc2. Being too soft in the contact has been a real battle for me.

I agree completely with everyone else who posted. I would like to add a thought about scoring in general. It seems to me that scores are on the rise in all of the major competitions. I remember the beginning of this EG winning streak. He broke the r…

Experience, awards and certifications are very important to me. I got tangled up with a hack when I first started dressage. It was a gut wrenching, confidence shaking experience no one should have to endure. Now I have a instructor I can trust. Not…

I just bought a pair of Mountain Horse Mountain High Riders. They rock! They have a lot of extra room in them for doubled socks and extra pant layers. They're very waterproof (my #1 criteria). They break in relatively quickly. I'm very pleased and s…

Thanks Jan. I've definitely learned a lot from my TB. The most important thing I've learned is that rehab is not for me. I'm very proud of the progress we've made, but it has been gruelling. Buying a horse without baggage is definitely high on my li…

Hi, Kinni: For some reason the site's insisting on my response in a different place, so I hope you get it! I love mares, but then I love horses, regardless of sex, size, colour or breed. Right now I'm riding mares almost exclusviely as competition…

Sound advice all the way. I like what you've written below about good sportsmanship. For very competitive people, it can be hard to keep a level head. That's why I try to laugh at my own shortcomings whenever possible (that's after I sit in a stall…

One more idea to throw out...I think sometimes observers do indeed get overly discouraging to hopefuls. It's really fun to challenge a hopeful, and give him a taste of what he needs to do and it's especially fun to give them the truth and hear them…

"Thanks for the words of discouragement" If you are the kind of person who will succeed, you won't see it as discouragement. You'll see it as advice of how to go about it, and how not to make the mistakes others make. You're an exception. You're a…

Cheers Jan! You're right about all the breeds that can make it to GP [tickles my ribs]. My trainer's first GP horse was a 3 y.o. TB from a rodeo. I suspect it takes a special amount of sensitivity to create a GP horse out of a conformationally or b…

Hi again, Kinni: My apologies for sounding discouraging - I think it's easier to communicate this stuff in person! I make my living coaching and training, with some judging assignments thrown in, and I see so many people who have overextended thems…

Thanks folks! I can see this is going to be fun already.
Admin, I'm not yet expert with it. I would love to participate in some discussions though. I've been using clicker for about three months now. It really was a last resort after I realized I was in over my head with a rescue horse. (He's coming along very nicely now that we can communicate.) I'll put a shout out on the clickryder yahoo group. Some of those folks are expert and I know they love to share their knowledge. Jane Savoie just interviewed two of them for her site, Sharon Foley and Dolores Arste.

Hey Kinny, right after I left you a message, I noticed that you do clicker training. Are you expert at it? I thought it might be fun to do a little series on the philosophy and training ideas for our community and was wondering if any of our members knew anything about it!
