Rollkur, or as often called, hyperflexion, is indeed both controversial and widespread. In fact, it has been used in warmups for over 20 years now, and can be seen at many of the larger dressage competitions. I find it very puzzling. I've ridden ...

Hi Bernd The point is precisely that functional athletes are doing better and remain sound. I agree with you that the main issue is the judging standards. If judges were properly educated they would not reward dysfunctional athletes whatever the ...

Hm, the debate about physiological effects is interesting, but I think its missing the point. Also the aim of any training technique is not to create a funtional athlete, at least not primarily. It is to win the competition. If rollkur leads to ...

Hi Teddy Cutting the skin with spurs is torture. applying on the horse tong a force greater that the tong structure can absorb is painful. There are however many riding techniques which do not generate pain. The concept of negative reinforcement ...

Thanks very much for approaching this discussion so well, it is the reason I take part in only this one. The only disagreement I have with you is that you can study pain, as it will elicit a higher cortisol response that can easily be measured thr...

Dear Teddy Thank you for your response. You are referring to pathological changes, (damages) on the nuchal ligament and cervical vertebrae which is not the subject of our discussion. Not a word in our presentation is referring to pathological cha...

Decades ago we did not have good convenient worming products (remember tube worming?), colic surgery was not routine (I'm in NC and thirty years ago colic surgery was done two states away, requiring trailering the horse suffering from colic,) and ...

About Me:
We breed arabians, warmbloods and mixes for sport horse purposes. I love dressage and train in classical dressage style. We have also had a lot of success training young horses in halter and eventually liberty. I pride myself on having exceptionally well mannered colts and fillies that are a breeze to start under saddle.

It is a bit of a challenge with a baby in toe!!! What have you done at the shows you've been to? The spring season has just started for us, went to Monarto HT on the weekend. Did an absolutely crap dressage test!!! can't remember ever being stone motherless last before. I got a bit tence before the test because I couldn't find some gear, so that didn't help. Oh, we got two thirds at the Royal Adelaide Show in the Section 4's. So that was good. The jumping phases at the HT were much better, Itchy's first Prelim round(95cm) had two silly stops x-country, but jumped a cracker of a round showjumping. 16th at the end.Glad to here you are doing some teaching again. Cheers Geoffrey

Hi Babygirl,
Wondering how you and your little package are doing, heeeee. Miss your loving smile. Ruth says hello as she was out this week-end with Nugget and I for the start of our lessons together. She loves him, but of course, heeee. Well, looks like I did actually find the right horse this time and I can't wait for you both to meet. I'm so anxious to meet your new baby girl so keep in touch if you think about it as you will certainly have enough on your mind very soon. Love you bunches and always have a place in my heart just for you.

Yeah, a gypsey vanner, but also known as a 'gypsey cob', they're used here in the riding schools, which is where 'Merry Gerry' came from, they retired him, he was hard work, only I could get him going, so whenhe came up for sale I bought him. He's a real plod, I love him and he look after me, I'm still very much a novice.
Love your videos,
catch you later.

wow... you do have quite a house hold! but in such a great way.

i love arabs... this summer i rode with a girl who does endurance riding and i rode a couple of her arabs... so sweet.... and it taught me a lot about posting.. ha ha!! but not sure at 56 if endurance is for me...
i just want to cruise along... no hurry...
Perfect is a TWH... and will be about 15' 2 hands... he is a little love.
I could not have asked for a better horse to help me with my new experience... It will be fun taking long walks and experiencing everything that there is to see and do. he is really good about my toucing him all over his body and when i slide my hand to his pastern and say 'hoof up' he is so good about it... but in the hing legs i have to ask more directly!
i don't have any specific plans for Perfect other than to love him and ride him when he is ready.... and who knows... maybe more... but for now... it is bonding and ground manners for this little guy:)

With an inexperienced horse, do you find it's easier to work on lateral movements a little each day, or a little every few days? I don't want to tax his good will, but I do want to make progress.
