Koala hay??
For all you people that are wondering what Koala hay is, well it's a long story. In the 30's Koala's were introduced to Kangaroo Island , (not a native to the island) and for a good few years now they have been eating themselves out of house and home. Koala's only eat a particular type of gum leaves. Lots of Koala's ,not much to eat. So the government said we should Cull some of the Koala's so the numbers come down and they don't all starve to death.One quick shot or a slow lingering death by starvation, no brainer really!
The Japanese got wind of the impending Cull and all hell broke loose ( Japanese tourists LOVE Koala's) .A quick turnaround ( AS GOVERNMENTS ARE VERY GOOD AT WHEN THEY THINK THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING UNPOPULAR) and decided to catch and castrate a percentage of the male population, this has been going on for 5 or 6 years , and they have been relocating some to other parts of the country. Don't really know how successful it has been ,except it has been a good little earner for the islands vets and the casual Koala wranglers . Right, back to the Koala hay, well they have to eat something while they are in captivity!! So I bale Koala hay , chop some leafy branches out of the Manna gums and bale it up for shipment to the island for the Koala's to munch on . No more starving castrated Koala's!! Don't really know how Koala's got to be so over populated, they sleep 15-16 hours a day, clearly they are horny little devils , all they do is eat sleep and the other thing!!!

LOL. Sounds like fun. Good Story. After studying horse nutrition, I believe its a strong factor.

- Brilliant - thanks for explaining! i was wondering how you would make hay out of Koalas but now I understand it's FOR the Koalas it makes far more sense!
