Difficult Foal.

Ah! ^^ Thank you for the input.... So if she spins to kick, spank her? I think I did that once and she flipped out, tried to run away, tripped and landed face first into the floor of the stall. I ...

Trainers and mentors. Do you follow one or many?

Hmm.. Well I have three trainers at the barn I go to... One is the barn owner, the other is my first trainer and the third is some dutch man. All three have completely different views on how to rid...

And...while that was great fun to write while I was soaking my ankle, LOL, the owner has already specified how she wants the horse handled, and that's the end of that. Personally, I would stay away from the horse, especially if I wasn't an employ...

It's hard to tell if this is just a case of a person who's unfamiliar with less broke and handled babies, or if it is really that the horse has a big problem. I've seen people get awfully scared of a horse that just is a bit more upheaded and jump...

okay..I am so hoping you have a corral. This horse is dangerous..obviously. Get her out of a stall, for her safety and others. I like to halter break when they are still with their mothers, but obviously this isn't whats going to happen. So put he...

turning her hind-end to you is a MAJOR sign of disrespect. You wouldn't allow a full grown horse to do that, would you? Whatever you let her get away with, is the best you can ever expect her to be. It is important that you teach her to be a respe...

Your baby is successfully intimidating you. Horses play a game, it's called "whoever moves their feet first loses" and so far this filly is way ahead of you. Do you think any other herd member would allow her to act like that? Heck no. Any horse i...

Hello... I have a mustang. He's 4..... he used to rear, or strike, or whathaveyou, but he's always been easy to catch. I think what helped me the most was pushing through and insecurities I had that I could manage Oliver... and I still work in it....

I enjoyed this so much! At first I was like "Hmm.." but then I realized it was supposed to be a joke. XD Too funny!

I agree with this and have done it - it works. A very stubborn and spoiled Haflinger was brought to me for starting and he would plant his feet and refuse to move. I would simply force him to move backwards. The last time I backed him about 100' f...

Oh my god! That is a mighty huge pony you got there! Either the man is short or that's a giant horse. =) So cute!

I'm joining this one because I require much needed encouragement in getting a little more snippy with my horse. She's only a year old and she is the leader pretty much. XD Soo.. Hi! ^^

Wow.... This input is really inspirational. I actually never thought of it like that before. I don't have a problem with getting dominant it's just that I have no real idea on how to go about it. I'm going to take all of these opinions and think...

Jackie, Great explanation of the horse mind and instinct which we ALL have to recognize and work with if we are to be successful horse-people.

I am afraid that the only way for your horse to become your partner is to be a firm leader, then the horse sort of relaxes and starts working for you. I think that horses feel that it is below their dignity to cooperate with a human without SOME f...

Hi slc2! Thanks for the advice. I agree with the whole 'just missed' being kicked thing. It's the first time she's ever done it and it really caught me off guard. The thing is, I was actually walking a step infront of her at the time. She stoppe...

Hello Shirley! =) Thanks for the input. I'll look into the mechanics of Parelli Level 1 then and research it a little. You'd be surprised at how many, er, clinicians I've seen and tried their methods on Dots. None really have the desired results ...

The papers I have for him say he's a Pinto (registered) Quarter Horse, alot of people have commented that he's a "Foundation" Quarter horse as he have very big bones. He looks almost like a draft cross, but as you know, horse cant be registered Pinto if he has draft in him.

I have more pics for him, just have to have more time on the computer LOL. I have a one year old daughter that demands much of my time.

I ride western, or at least I like to think so haha. What style do you ride?
