I think there's a ton a person can do to lessen the stress to all therapy animals, but I do believe it is essentially a stressful job. I had never even thought about it, I just agreed all the propaganda I read from the various organizations and pu...

As the owner of 22 therapeutic horses I completely agree with you. Being a therapeutic horse is an extremely stressful job because so much of what happens in a therapeutic program is unpredictable and completely unnatural for horses. In our progra...

I think you are right in your definitions and decisions to take the middle ground... and when we love our horses, tough love is sometimes the sweetest kind. :)

Obedience and leadership.... a tough subject because everyone sees it so differently. One man's counter canter is another man's wrong lead, as they say. Too, in our 'politically correct' and somewhat disconnected world today, many people think of ...

I think they love that I am their leader, their friend, their caregiver.... the reason I think this is because Chris Irwin tells us how to see that our horse is trying to be a friend... and in horse terms, I believe my horses love me.. I even beli...

Hi Laura,
I saw a comment on the driving page about you asking about any driving clinics in southern Ontario. There is a Learn to Drive Clinic thats held in on Sat/Sun April 18-19 '09. They provide you with well schooled horses and ponies and teach you how to harness up and drive. For more information go to www.driveontario.ca/copda and look up clinics.

Hi Laura, I have joined your group and do hope to learn more about Natural Horsemanship. I am not familiar with the people you have named, but would love to know who they are and what type of approach they take. Perhaps if you have the time, you will post some info. I'm certain all of our members would be interested in that - and also in the type of work you do with horses and people. How fascinating!!

My very old pony colicked about 2 years ago. While he seemed to be just fine, I have always kept a close eye on him. Because of his age, I give him 'soup' for his meal and I do add oil. Every horse is different of course and while one may only col...

slc2 replied to Linda White's discussion 'Colic' in the group Over 50 crowd
Well, I feel that every colic is different. Ask your vet for suggestions as to why the colic occured (one doesn't always know), and don't worry too much about big pieces of carrot causing colic; it is unusual for that to even be a factor. I don't ...
