I would just like to say - You Rock - I've been running a discussion on Barnmice to voice my own disgust at the fact that Fashion now wins top dressage competition and not true skill and hard work. I started this discussion a couple of weeks ago b...

All I can say is that Fashion is never a good thing (and I'll be honest not only am I a horse rider, I'm also a Goth so maybe I have a fashion issue....) but the similarity of Hyperflexion on the dressage field is so close to the Victorian use of ...

here is an interesting bit of history about Rollkur. Its not new, at all. It was used around the year 1900 in Germany by Paul Plinzner. He prepared the horses for the German Emperor. This Emperor William II had a crippled left arm and couldn't ri...

Good point about not using training aids on the roads. Training aids must used with care, there are too many variables outside the ring -- uneven ground, unsuitable footing, motoroized vehicles -- for training aids to be used judiciously. I've se...

There has and alway's will be people who will use these training aids abusively, but it is only recently that I have seen people using them for everyday riding. Believe me on the two separate occasions I have seen people hacking out in these train...

If one thought that rollkur/hyperflexion was abusive at the FEI levels, consider that "Modern Dressage" has given inexperienced or under-experienced riders permission to train incorrectly. That's my biggest complaint with the practice. However, th...

There seems to be a progression with horse shows. First the horses and riders are not too good and the judges correctly judge them. Then the horses improve, the riders improve, and good or at least decent horsemanship abounds. Then, when everybody...

Hi Guys, The reason I started this discussion is exactly the point Bernd is making that Fashion, i.e. an over exaggerated front end in the extended movements is what wins the world record high scores, NOT good horsemanship, and whilst Gal is able...

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a hobby rider, who is very lucky to have a next door Horse owner with two horses which have to be ridden out together. At a very young age I was taught to ride at "Fulmer, School of Equitation" in Ledston, West Yorkshire. So I have a limited amount of classical training. Having to sell my horse broke my heart and I have only returned to the fold in the last 3 years with my move up North after a 10 year gap.

Please sign up to the petition on the link attached http://www.rethinkthehorsetax.org/home.php

Congratulation for your remarks. Horses are lame because they are not properly trained for the achievements they are asked to perform. Instead of using more drug to repair the damages, a more efficient application of advances in scientific knowled...
