Hi, Janice: You could likely donate him to the University of Washington at Pullman. He sounds like he has a club foot, which has perhaps not been properly managed by your farrier(s) to date. As I said before, there are many ligament and tendon in...

Ann - that's awful news. It comes to all of us who love animals, but at least we have the option of allowing them to finish out their lives with dignity and without pain. You have done the most loving thing available to us. You have put aside you...

Hi, Janice: This diagnosis sounds a little "fishy" to me. There are many ligaments and tendons running through the pastern joint and inserting under and around the navicular and pedal bones, and one ore more of those is much more likely to be the...

Jackie: If this were my horse I'd be transporting it to the veterinary hospital at Pullman, WA, ASAP for further workup, evaluation, and possible stem cell injections. Suspensory injuries are most often CAREER ENDING, particularly for horses in t...

Hi, Becky: My experiences with treeless saddles is pretty much that when you most need to depend on them they don't do the job. They slide around and aren't very stable, and if you've tried wearing shoes that fit like that you know how irritating...

Hi, Jennifer: Do you pick up the manure in her field? If not, I really would suspect parasite infestation first and foremost. If that's the case you will need the help of your veterinarian to de-worm her properly without subjecting her to an over...

Hey, my wonderful mare finished her First Level Bronze Medal in 2008, started and finished her Second Level Silver Medal in 2008, and picked up the first 2 required scores of her Third Level Silver Medal in 2008! She's also the BC Second Level Open Champion! She is a total sweetie, really fun to train and show, and completely belies the myths about chestnut mares!

Thank you very much for your advice Jan! Gryphon was so kindly loaned to me after the passing of my Arabian- to keep me riding & I just love him, but I do realize that it will take time to adapt and I have so much yet to learn!

Yes Jan, I am young and new to dressage. The "thick hide" and "can't feel you" are comments made by my coaches (one a judge). I am physically pretty fit with 4 days a week synchronized swimming. Other than my personal fitness, do you have any other suggestions I can try?

Thanks Jan for taking the time to respond. That is really good advice. You confirmed a few things that I suspected. I agree that there are many excellent coaches out there that have not necessarily gone through the process.

I rode in -20 last night but -37 this morning in the central interior of BC. Too cold even for me.
