Ideas on Suspensory damage...

I definately agree with that advice! My vet told me that because the injuries weren't that bad- that we caught them early, that he should comeback 100% and sooner than most horses would. So, fingers…

How Can I break boredom for my "Stall Resting" horse?

He is definately restless. And is handwalked and brushed daily while under the influence of Ace. Howeever, he is a very intelligent horse who, mentally, I think needs to be occupied during the day. I…

How Can I break boredom for my "Stall Resting" horse?

Yes, he is on a schedule of hand walking. But, I'm looking for a toy or game he can play while stuck in his stall for 23 hours a day... haha

Ideas on Suspensory damage...

As of right now, he had 30 days of stall rest and 15 minutes daily of "hand grazing" and leisurley walking; and just started on a light schedule of actual hand walking 2 weeks ago- moving up a minute…

I think the best thing you can do is make sure he is on a tranquilizer that keeps him quiet if he shows any restlessness of a type that might jeapardize his recovery, such as suddenly jumping, spooking or rearing while led or in his stall, pacing ar…

I agree sound advice! It's sometimes harder for us than it is for them best not to get anxious I've been there and learned my lesson, fussed too much and ended up wishing I'd left well alone.

Follow the veterinarian's orders. That's my idea! Shock wave is a great treatment and very successful in many cases.

I think you're going down the wrong path. He sounds like the best patient in the world, and that ability to just adjust to a new routine and nap all day is the best thing that could possibly happen to him! Let him rest and be quiet. If he's on stall…

Is he allowed to be out for hand-walking?

As of right now, he had 30 days of stall rest and 15 minutes daily of "hand grazing" and leisurley walking; and just started on a light schedule of actual hand walking 2 weeks ago- moving up a minute a day. He will Be re-evaluated at 90 days with ul…

Well, because of his injury- he won't be allowed out side for another 2 weeks (which I'm sure he's going to love!).

I nicked my stall rest man a traffic pylon and painted the top w molasses. He loved hanging his head out of the stall to chew on it. There's also the usual stuff, jolly ball, milk jug w grain and a small hole, hand walking (if the vet ok's it) a few…

Forgot to add; please give him at least 6 to 9 months, preferably a year before resuming any training with him. Most often people do not give the horse enough recovery time, and they end up re injuring the horse by pushing them before they are ready…

I would definitely work with your vet and a physiotherapist. Shockwave therapy is wonderful, but do look into the stem cell injections, combined with shock wave and physiotherapeuitc treatment gives you your best odds for recovery. Often, horses wil…

Jackie: If this were my horse I'd be transporting it to the veterinary hospital at Pullman, WA, ASAP for further workup, evaluation, and possible stem cell injections. Suspensory injuries are most often CAREER ENDING, particularly for horses in the…

I'm going to risk a pie in the face and say I love winter. It's 24 degrees today, the sky is clear, and I think it's going to really drop tonight. The only thing I need tonight is a comet, LOL, and it will be perfect!
