How big is the run with the stall? I'm all for horses interacting and having space to roam, but I agree that there are too many horses and out together there and if you get one low in the pecking order s/he will never see the inside of that shelte...

About Me:
I have ridden since childhood and am a big connemara pony fan. I have a wonderful connemara/TB cross that I bought as a 3 year old. He is now five and I am training him basic dressage and started jumping him this year. I hope to try eventing with him next year. I also have a purebred Connemara mare, an arab/ quarter horse cross and a donkey.

When your leg is bent as extremely as it is in a jump saddle, your leg is not on the buckle, so the buckle doesn't impede comfort. I think truly it's just a design thing - in dressage saddles it's important that the buckle not be under your leg, which is straight. It is of course, also easier to buckle up the shorter billets! I don't think that this ever really became an issue for jumping or GP saddles for these reasons.

Hi Jen,
Every week when we close that particular contest, we'll announce the winner and their post in the last comment. We'll get last week's up this evening. Unfortunately, when we moved the contest to our discussion area, we lost the one for the first week. Good luck with the contest!! :)

Hi Jen! Thanks for your kind comment about my mare! Her name is Sheer Bliss. She is now 20 years old and had her last foal last year. She is by Ballydonagh Bobby out of an old type mare 'Gold Show' by Ardilaun. So she is very in-bred to Carna Bobby. I have used outcross stallions on her, and all her foals that have been shown have won in the show ring. I didn't keep her to make money from, I wanted to keep an old line going - Ballydonagh Bobby didn't leave a breeding stallion son, and had very few pure-bred mares. As he was known to get jumpers, most of his stock went showjumping - the most famous is Garryhack Bobby, who jumped internationally for Switzerland for many years. Most of my mares' offspring went over the height - probably due to the thoroughbred blood in Carna Bobby - but I have a 2 year old filly from her by Carraig Thunder who looks like she will measure in, and I will keep her, to keep the line going. As far as I can find out, Bliss is the only daughter of her dam who has been bred from, so I think its important to keep these old lines going!

Do share your mares with me! I'd love to see their pics, and hopefully you will have the chance to breed at least one foal from your pure-bred mare in the future.

Hi Jen,
I noticed your posting on lower leg position. I'd love to comment on it in the Ride Better 1-2-3 blog...do you think it will be possible for you to get a photo so I can see what you mean? Otherwise, even if you just have more in your description of the issue, I could work with that and try and help you out. I generally pick someone's submission once a week and write my blog post on Tuesday or Wednesday. If you can flesh out more on the issue, or even send in a photo tomorrow...I could use your example this week. No one has commented on last weeks' entry.
