Is there a specific reason that you are using reins in this case and not a lunge rein? I'm very interested in knowing the purpose of this technique because I have this system I bought at an auction along with a lot of other pieces of leather and the…

Very important lesson here I'm sure. I won't be doing any competitions ever but I certainly would like to know more about dressage and the lessons involved. The ribbon lesson is a good idea in whatever the chosen discipline.

I don't have any suggestions but I do also have a mare with thin, tender soles. I'm considering boots for her during the fall because of when the ground freezes, it picks at her. During the summer we have to avoid gravel and walk on the pavement whi…

My niece dressed herself and her horse in a wedding costume once. There was a lot of long white fringe around the horse, bridle reins saddle blanket, breast strap, etc. She wore a modified white wedding dress and veil.

I use to have a mare who went down the same, every time I got on her. I was a small 9-year-old and didn't have the strength to keep her head up. But this pair as a lot more class then I had , though I can't remember ever being mad or scared, just fr…

I am so pleased that you wrote this post. I recently bought a saddle, which I feared was a poor fit. It has become seldom used for that reason. Now I know what I must do to remedy the situation - return it. Thanks.

About Me:
My name is Wynn Currie and I've been riding practically all my life and still feel in awe of these magnificent animals. The more I research into riding, the more I realize I don't know.
I live on the Magdalen Islands, Quebec, Canada. I lost a filly who was having epileptic seizures last year, which sort of sucked the hot air out of my balloon. I have three horses left - Gimme A Dream, a 17hh, Hanoverian gelding, Woodmere Frilifili (Frilly), a 16hh Standardbred filly and Willow Breeze, a 15hh Canadian mare. All are young horses whom my friends, family and I take great pleasure in, riding the 300 km of soft white sandy beaches that surround the islands.

Hi again Wynn,

Re the mare, I wonder if she has a microchip? I think that's how they're supposed to be registered these days, but a surprising number of folks don't bother registering (with geldings especially, since they can't be bred, but even some mares too). It's a shame you don't know more about her, but I'm glad you found her and saved her from a terrible fate.
Good luck with the job and enjoy the summer!

Hi again,

That's a great story about the Canadian mare...I've written two songs involving horses rescued from slaughter. I tried to look her up on the CLRC site to find her pedigree/breeder, but nothing came up under Minority or even Minoritée...do you have her full registered name or number? I'm so glad she was able to overcome what must have been a horrendous past. BTW there's a wonderful discussion list for the breed on Yahoo - some very knowledgeable folks there, always helpful re training, feed, tack questions. I've met some great people through the list and they helped me solve some tricky issues with my gelding, who was way tooo smart for his own good, or mine, lol! I'll give you the list info if you're interested.

As for editing, yes, do keep me in mind - I'll send you a resume if you like. I do a lot of work for Key Porter in Toronto, plus these days also for a huge educational website for Korean kids learning English. They post new articles weekly on a huge range of topics, so one day I'll research Frida Kahlo, and the next week the Pony Express. It's a great job, but I'm underemployed these days, especially given that I'm going to be able to take the Morgan I ride this summer to some schooling shows, but that means entry fees, trailering costs, etc. Not a cheap sport we're involved with, eh?!

Best,
Marie-Lynn

Hi Wynn, nice to meet you! As mentioned, I'm not very savvy re these sorts of sites. Why don't you resend your friend request (as I can't see it on my page now, but that could be me not looking in the right place) and I'll add you.

You're right, it never hurts to make connections - who knows, maybe you'll need an editor to sub work out to! (Or I might, but that's unlikely, as I can only work part-time now due to my visual disability...)

Anyway, a journalist with an Anglo name in the Magdalens - I bet there's a story right there!

Tell me more about your Canadian - I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I could afford to own again.

Best,
Marie-Lynn

Hi Gimme a Dream,

You apparently asked to become a "friend" of mine on this site - since I don't know you or even your real name, I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a mistake. Perhaps you saw that I used to own a Canadian, as you do now, and wanted to make a connection for that reason? Anyway, I'm just checking...I don't do these kinds of sites much, and I'm not too sure of protocol - should we always/never/depends accept "friend" requests from folks we don't know? Help!
