Dave Barry on horses: "You Take The Horse; I'll Gladly Take The Dog"

Knight-Ridder Newspapers

RECENTLY a woman I know named Michelle came into the newspaper office with a big ugly wound on her upper arm. Realizing that she might be self-conscious about it, I said: "Michelle, what's that big ugly wound on your upper arm?" Sensitivity is the cornerstone of journalism.

It turned out that Michelle had been bitten by a horse. It was her own horse, and it bit her while she was trying to feed it.

Miracle horse survives 5.3km swim through irrigation tunnel

October 3, 2009

By Neil Clarkson

An Arabian horse has miraculously survived a 5.3km swim through an irrigation tunnel after being sucked into its intake.
The tale of nine-year-old Eddie left the manager of the Wyoming irrigation scheme almost lost for words in describing the remarkable story of Eddie's survival.

The drama began last Thursday when what started out as a ride along the banks of the Shoshone River turned into a nightmare for 16-year-old Joshua Black, who was riding Eddie.

'I promise I will not eat my horse'

'I promise I will not eat my horse'

June 24, 2009

by Neil Clarkson Horsetalk NZ

The media has been having a field day over European Union legislation requiring horse owners to supposedly undertake that they will not eat their horse.

"I hereby declare that I will not eat my horse or pony," the mass circulation tabloid, The Sun, headlined its take on the story.

Describing the new EU rules as barmy, The Sun reported that horse owners must sign a pledge not to eat their pets - or face up to two… Continue

Week-long mountain horse rescue in Canada shows the true meaning of Christmas

This is what the spirit of the season is all about...

MCBRIDE, British Columbia – Two frostbitten, emaciated horses were recovering inside a warm barn on Saturday thanks to volunteers who spent the week before Christmas digging the animals out of snow in the mountains of northeastern British Columbia.

Birgit Stutz said Saturday that she and other rescuers cheered when they finally finished digging a half-mile escape route through the snow for the animals. The horses had been abandoned by a hun… Continue

I couldn't believe what I was reading about Eddie. He sounds like a horse
with 9 lives like a cat. He must be special and have many things to teach
us humans. He is a true survivor. Such joy to hear such a wonderful ending for an animal. I know how I would have felt if it had been my horse.
As I love her more them I can explain in all we have been through together. Take good care of Eddie he has many more adventures.
