The breeds of horses I have raised and ridden have been related to what I was involved with. Not to say I changed with the wind, but I have always had a bit of a United Nations here to cover various activities and needs: Arabs for fun and endurance…

Jenn, I think some of the great things about horse-ownership and riding and training are philosophical: learning to appreciate the right now, the sensory, the emotional and the little ‘improvements’ in our skills and the horses’ skills. I really thi…

I would like some opinions on what endurance bloodlines to look for among the wide variety of regis tered Arab mares for sale now. A lineage of good temperment but also good endurance would be perfect, preferrably with some results one could referen…

I am off to an AI course at Olds College (AB,Canada) in March. I want to decide if I will advertise for outside mares and whether I will do AI with my jack for my mares and/or outside mares. Those of you who do AI on your stud, would you kindly let…

Hi Amy, If you bred your solid black TWH to a spotted ass you might well get colour as the gene in the donkey is, if I remember correctly, semi-dominant. Evidently not much study of colour genetics has gone on in donkeys until the recent popularity…

Karen; No experperience with that saddle, only a treeless version of theirs about 10 years ago. It was expensive, made reasonably well but wasn't great. Vicki, Well done; now go show up those young pups!

iI is tough sending a horse to a renderer. But, I found after I put down the first horse here, my husband's 32-year-old Appy, that when they are dead it is a body. The life force goes in a blink and what happens to the body is less painfulas a resul…

I think I thought it might be easier than it is..... But I am doing this because I committed to my horses and whatever problems we have are just because I don't have experience, because I started when I was 44, because I have a elder horse and a you…

I notice as I get older that I am more patient with young horses, not that I was really a hurrier, but now I can stop, back up or repeat a process, or just say the heck with it and go for a stroll with the horse without feeling as though I am a fail…

About Me:
I am 56, a lifetime rider/owner/sometime trainer and breeder. I have ridden some dressage, endurance, show jumped, done flat classes, a bit of Western, etc. My love is trail riding/camping. I am just starting to raise spotted gaited mules for trail and larger sport mules. The mammoth jack, some of the broodmares, a couple of geldings and a mule are to be found on our old place in central southern BC, in the north end of the Okanagan Valley.

So Draft X Spotted mules by a spotted jack? Is your Rose Grey mare going to throw grey mules? Does that happen ? I've never seen a grey mule I dont think. Have you tested any of your broodstock for color zygosity?

Hi Anne, I just saw your question posted in the over 50 rider....I'd like to invite you to post some questions on my Ride Fit blog. I would say that most of my riding clients are over 45yrs old,and perhaps in clinics most are over 50. You've asked some good questions, I think I'll respond to them in the blog this week. I'd invite you to ask more since there are so many people out there with similar needs. You can also post photos if you'd like individual recommendations.
