Another idea you could try is some no stirrup work with you and this horse. It strengthens up your leg, and allows him to get use to ground poles and take off points. I had this problem with my old horse, especially over big jumps. Holding onto the mane is a great idea too!

Kathleen, (and Lauren) try holding the mane when you go over the jumps. Getting left behind is usually a personal balance thing, and gradually you will get the feel of it on your own. When you do get left behind, if you are holding his mane, at least you won't be hauling on his mouth.

heyy, i just started riding an ex-jumper that has had some time off and hes really speedy. hes an amazing jumper and usually gets perfect spots but sometimes he takes a major long spot and im not ready, and i get left behind. does any one have any tips on how NOT to get left behind when your jumping? i find it happens to me with the really big jumps too which is even worse :P

Thank You Jennifer You are correct the stress is overwhelming. Some people just have no consideration for others at this time of year. Life is cruel sometimes we just take it one day at a time.
