Saint Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of Animals. His commemoration is on the 4th of October which is also World Animal Day. There will be many activities on that day ranging from conferences and information sharing to walks and tours. Participants will be found in many countries from Greece and Italy to Germany and Austria.

For many years all pets living within the boundaries of the Parish of St. Peter in Linz have been blessed individually during Holy Mass on the Sunday nearest World Animal Day. The animal blessing ceremony will take place in the church square, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the service will take place in the church.

Now, worldwide participation is possible! In previous years we've received many telephone calls and emails from people who were unable to come to the animal blessing with their pets for various reasons such as too far to travel or poor health. For those who are unable to attend in person, it's possible to post or email a photograph of their pet, with its name, for inclusion in the animal blessing service.

We will display the photographs on the wall and they will receive God's blessing during the ceremony. Last year we received over 700 emails from around the world with more than 1000 pictures of animals requesting prayer and blessing.

Dr. Judith Eigl, Veterinary Surgeon, has generously agreed to cover the cost of printing the colour photographs of all the animals. There is no charge for attending the service and, after the animal blessing, all participants will receive a photograph of the celebration by mail or email free of charge.
