What and where is the earliest endurance or CT ride in BC for 2010?
Ann Hatfield Comment by Ann Hatfield on October 22, 2009 at 11:59pm
I live in southern central BC, the north end of the Okanagan Valley. I will be looking for a registered Arab broodmare this coming spring. If she had foaled one or more times so much the better. She may not get ridden, just used as a broodmare, so a horse with an injury that removes her from riding I would consider. It would have to be something that would not be exacerbated by being heavily in foal. My horses have a pasture and daily grazing, shelters, barn; they live in small groups and live at least a somewhat 'free' life. I have 50 years experience with horses. If anyone has a horse that might fill the bill, or knows of one, please let me know. I am particularly interested in a good natured, conformationally correct mare. I will skip the great athlete with a crazy personality!

Skimikin Lake CTR and Endurance Race will not be held this year as no organized events are to take place there this year... not sure of the exact reason.

What boots are youusing on your horses now? What do you think is best? I am very behind: I am boggled to see all the brands and styles out now.

I've been checking the website www.bcctra.ca and it doesn't look like the ride is posted, so I'm not sure if there will be one this year... www.erabc.com (endurance) doesn't have a Skimikin Lake ride on their events page this year either.

Ari, have you heard about Skimikin yet? I will ask around as I live not to far from the area.

Hi Cassandra

Are you an OCTRA member now? If so what horse do you ride. I share the leopard Appaloosa in my avatar with my mom, the mare's name is Bask N Coins (aka Loosi). So far we are planning on Queen's Bush and Aprilfest (in May) for the OCTRA season. We've also got 3 US rides planned this season.

We sometimes trailer up to Dufferin Forest to school in during the summer as all we have are back roads to condition on. We also trailer up to Rabbit Run Farm in Flesherton if we need to practice hills.

I know many OCTRA members trailer into Dufferin during the week to condition on the trails.

And...while that was great fun to write while I was soaking my ankle, LOL, the owner has already specified how she wants the horse handled, and that's the end of that. Personally, I would stay away from the horse, especially if I wasn't an employ...

Thank you very much for responding! I really needed to hear that. Sometimes we have good days where she makes so much progress, but we more often have the bad days when I'm wondering "Why the heck did I buy this animal!?" But I'll stick with her, ...
