CARD Luncheon at Tournament of Champions is September 18, 2008!
CARD (www.card.ca), is pleased to announce the CARD Luncheon at Tournament of Champions will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008. The event will take place during the Tournament of Champions at Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave, Ontario, just 30 minutes north of Toronto.
The CARD Luncheon at Tournament of Champions plays host to between 150-200 guests each year who are passionate about horses and/or CARD’s mission to improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities through therapeutic riding programs. To date, the event has raised more than $200,000, with proceeds going directly to support CARD’s therapeutic riding programs.
“CARD offers an amazing program, and it’s an amazing place,” says Kathy Bontje, whose 17-year old son Brock has been riding at CARD since 2000. “CARD has had a tremendously positive and direct impact on Brock’s self-esteem and independence, and it has improved his balance and his ability to walk.” CARD has also given Brock, and other riders, the opportunity to develop life skills and to give back – as volunteers, as ambassadors, and as riders. “It’s a place,” says Bontje, “that looks at people’s abilities and teaches them what they can do.”
Along with an elegant luncheon and a silent auction, the Tournament of Champions Luncheon in support of CARD features a demonstration by CARD riders and horses that illustrates some of the ways CARD helps children and adults with disabilities.
Once again this year, CARD would like to thank its title sponsor, The Krembil Foundation, for their continued and generous support of this event.
Tickets for the event are $100, and corporate tables are available. Seating is limited to 200, and tickets are available for purchase by contacting CARD at 416-667-8600 x80.
About the Community Association for Riding for the Disabled
For almost 40 years, CARD’s therapeutic riding programs have had a direct and positive impact on the lives of more than 15,000 children and adults with disabilities. Founded in 1969, CARD (the Community Association for Riding for the Disabled) was the first therapeutic riding centre in Canada. Today, CARD works with specially trained physiotherapists, equine experts, 19 therapy horses and more than 350 volunteers to help more than 500 children and adults with disabilities a year gain greater physical, cognitive, psychological and social skills. CARD is funded through public grants, private donation and fundraising events.
