I found a fantastic stallion in the states with blood lines to die for. He's very very nice. I will be breeding him to my CWB mare. My concern is, will the CWB registry approve this foal or accept its registration even though the stallion is not CWB approved? What steps do I need to take to ensure that I can register this foal? Or, do I simply need to go to an inspection with it?

Thank you all for the help and feedback!!

You will be able to register your foal. All foals out of CWHBA mares are eligible for a birth certificate. What level of papers you get will depend on the approval/s the stallion holds. Not all AHHA stallions are automatically accepted as approved, so you could check with our office where he would be placed.
Make sure you get a photocopy of the stallions registration papers showing his pedigree, ownership and whether he has gone through a performance test or not. Also be sure to get a breeding certificate and make sure your membership is up to date with CWHBA.
If your mare has not yet been inspected for stud book entry, you will need to do that to get her in the proper level of book. Many breeders wait until they have their foal on the ground to take mare and foal to the inspection.
Hope that helps.

Thank you very much, it helps me a great deal! Is foal identification still happening? How difficult is it to get someone out to do that? I'm sorry so many questions, but I've never had first hand experience in this part of the horse world. The arabs are a little bit easier.

Can I contact someone through the Canadian Warmblood web site? Do they have a list of inspection dates and locations?

Thanks again!

Foal identification is still happening ... you can either go to one of the inspections which are listed on each chapter's web pages or have your vet do it. The Alberta chapter is very active and good about promoting their events. Just keep checking or ask other members when they are. There is a northern mare show and one in the south. Good luck with your breeding decision :)

Sorry to hear about this, Wanda. I don't own and horses (though I wish I did) but I can imagine that this is a stressful and uncertain time. I really hope you find a solution!
