Hello everyone, I have just joined your group and am excited about it. I have a Fjord-quarter horse pony I drive, and an appy that I will start in a few years.

I've been laid up so I haven't worked with the pony again yet. I hope that I'll be able to start up again in a few days.

I had a accident that damaged my knee cap, but I feel in love with driving after I could not ride anymore. Love it.

ok I have to ask . Does anyone know how to change the id photo. I don't seem to be able to simple upload a photo. although it is a nice horse behind a sunset I'd like something more personal.

I've been interested to read of your progress slc2. I have a pony here now, and a pony harness and cart....the temptation to introduce the pony to harness is great! I also want to get my Clyde x mare started in harness in the spring - thought I'd practice on the pony, she's a lot smaller. :-)

Hello all,
I totally agree with you on not all animals will tolerate driving. I know first hand! I had a welsh pony mare that we were trying to break to our pair years ago. She did not want anything to do with it and we ended up selling her as a hunter pony which she absolutly loves! They need to have the right attitude to drive. You never want to drive an animal that you always have to be on guard with...Thats no fun! I have seen many accidents at the shows in the 7 years that I have been driving. I have been lucky and have not had any major accidents and I hope never to! Its geat that your taking it slow with your pony. The more ground work the better...

I agree. Driviing does demand a lot from a horse in a different way than riding does. I do believe not all horses are able to be driving horses. It requires a calm horse with a sense of curiosity as opposed to a spooky horse who wants to run first and ask questions later. The potential for injury to horse and driver is greater I think than perhaps when riding.

PPS, sandra, I think though that driving demands an awful lot from a horse, I'm told not all horses will be able to tolerate it.

Ps, we did not have the harness on and we didn't drive the pony hitched up. This was just getting him more familiar.
