We have a shetland pony named Charlie. He was given to us by a ranch that found him a pain. He'd escape as their fences weren't too great. All the grass and food in general caused him to founder. We keep him in corral or outdoor arena and he's keeping a perfect body weight and hasn't foundered since being kept away from grass.
He is very sweet with not a mean bone in his body.
I taught my daughter how to train him and now the kids can ride him at a walk and trot and play in my trail course in the arena. He loves going over the bridge :-)

I still have my first shetland pony. She's 28 this year and still plugging along. Ponies are the best!
