I forget for the life of me where and when I stand when the judge does his expection?

when I set up for inspection I am standing square on the opposite side of the judge (usually the judge moves to the right side because you would have just finished your pattern on the proper (left side) of your horse, and then once the inspection starts (with a nod of the head) you start to move from there. So for instance when you move square from left to right usually opposite from the judge, your pointers to switch sides is when the judge passes the dock, the head, and each side of the barrel. Is that what you meant through your question?

There are 4 sections that the judge will go through: Right front, Right hind, left hind, left front.

You will want to be on the same side as they are when they are on the hind section. As they reach the stomach move to the other for the front. Depending on which side they start you will want to be on the other side.

Big remember it is a 3 step move. No more or its a penalty. Also cross your legs never side shuffle. Make big steps. If you are small or short more steps are needed in case then they take that into account. Also the size of the horse you are showing. If it is pony then you have to take less steps so you don't over step. If it is a normal size horse then 3 is a good amount. But if it is larger than the average horse than they allow room for more steps.

No I hate showmanship but it is one of the few classes I do ok in.

I have been schooled way to many times trying to get this right.
