Event Description

Elise will be in the gallery to greet visitors on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to closing and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

You may have seen Elise Genest's very beautiful horse-inspired paintings at the Royal Winter Fair. This show, titled "Le cheval nu" (The Naked Horse), reflects the artist's interpretation of well-recognized parallels between the supple, prancing, airy gracefulness of equine exuberance and the beauty of the feminine form. Delicately sketched curves, equine gaits and motion in textured colours, and softness juxtaposed with strength are just a few phrases to describe her treatment of the subject. This group of magnificent creations is sure to leave observers absolutely spellbound by their discovery of a unique, new artistic talent.

Some 30 works varying in style and technique will be on display. They include drawings in gouache, acrylics on textured canvas, and concrete sculptures, some life size. Explanatory notes accompany most pieces.

Elise grew up in rural Quebec amidst a world of horses. As a young artist they provided her with an inexhaustible source of inspiration. In her early youth she traveled to the four corners of the world and immersed herself in English, German and Spanish language and culture. Through her parents, professional picture framers, she also had an early introduction to many works of art which benefited from their capable craftsmanship. Such masterpieces had a profound influence on an open and sensitive soul. Elise ultimately plunged wholeheartedly into the world of art and creativity herself.
Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (closed 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Admission is free!

Well said, slic2! There are two sides to every issue (sometimes there are more), and we need to be aware of all of them. I agree that there are horses who benefit from being ridden for short periods behind the vertical, which, as you say, is RAD...
